Stoner to remain with usual tyre choice
MotoGP championship leader Casey Stoner will remain with his regular choice of harder compound rear Bridgestone tyres for Laguna Seca this weekend, despite the new surface at the Californian track
The US Grand Prix venue has been relaid since it broke up under intense heat last year.
The temperatures and the new surface mean that Laguna is expected to provide the toughest choice for riders under the new tyre regulations. The field must nominate their choices of 14 fronts and 17 rears by 17.00 on the Thursday evening before the race weekend.
But Bridgestone's motorcycle tyre boss Hiroshi Yamada was confident that the Japanese company had the correct rubber for the weekend.
"We have had ten races so far and been fine at all of them," he said. "Qatar was very slippery and we were okay there."
He added that the problems that Bridgestone's leading team Ducati had at Laguna last season were not a concern this year.
"I don't know what the problem was with the Ducatis last year," said Yamada. "If you look at the year before we were not too bad."
