Stoner: Crash similar to Qatar
Casey Stoner believes his fall at the end of practice at Jerez today has helped him understand the accident that cost him victory in the Qatar Grand Prix, and that his Ducati team can now adjust the set-up to prevent it happening again
The Australian was fastest in practice today, but fell on his last run. He had previously crashed while leading at Losail.
"The crash at the end was a similar situation to Qatar - I went into the corner with less pressure on the front and it closed," said Stoner.
"It's never nice to crash but at least it gives us a better understanding of what happened in Qatar and which direction we need to take with the set-up over the rest of the weekend."
He was delighted to have led the session, having predicted before practice that this would be his best chance yet to win at Jerez - traditionally a track where he has struggled for both luck and speed.
"Other than [the crash] I am really happy," said Stoner.
"I think this is the first time I've been fastest in any MotoGP session at Jerez. We've started out strongly, we have no worries and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
