Edwards and Rossi on top again

Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi ensured that Yamaha finished at the top of the timesheets for the second day of running at Qatar

Edwards' best lap of 1:56:296 was nearly half a second quicker than the American managed yesterday, while Rossi also went faster than the fastest time from Tuesday.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa was the only other man to beat Edwards' effort from the first day, although the Spaniard was nearly half a second adrift of the former World Superbike champion on Wednesday.

Carlos Checa showed that he is comfortable riding a Honda by setting the fourth fastest time, just ahead of the man he has replaced at the LCR team, Casey Stoner.

Stoner's Ducati was marginally faster than the Suzuki of John Hopkins, while Shinya Nakano and Randy de Puniet were both able to get within a second of the time set by Edwards.

Kenny Roberts Jr could only manage the ninth quickest time after being fourth fastest on Tuesday, while Marco Melandri was 10th fastest as the Gresini team continued to get used to their Bridgestone tyres.
