Davies rules out MotoGP return for now

The Briton had a bad reaction to a tetanus injection that he was given following an accident in testing at Mugello last week, and feels it would be better to spend more time recovering.

Davies was testing for the Italian team as part of a serious evaluation of the 20-year-old following an impressive performance at the United States GP when he stood in for the injured Alex Hofmann.

He admitted to feeling 'off' at Laguna Seca last weekend, where he was competing in the AMA Superbike series finale.

Having spent six hours in hospital on his arrival because of the tetanus reaction, matters were not helped by two further crashes over the weekend. The worst was when he was involved in a six-bike pile-up at the Corkscrew, caused by oil on the track during first practice.

As autosport.com revealed earlier this week, Davies was approached by Pramac D'Antin to race at Motegi as a replacement for Hofmann, who has been dropped by the team.

But despite talks, he has now decided not to pursue a race deal for this weekend. Instead, he plans to return to Britain now rather than fly direct to Japan from America.

Although deciding not to race this weekend, Davies is still interested in competing in any of the remaining three MotoGP events after Motegi and was delighted to have been seriously considered for this weekend's event.
