Capirossi: rain could delay race start

MotoGP safety commission member Loris Capirossi says that the start of tomorrow's Italian MotoGP could be delayed in the event of heavy rain at Mugello

With conditions having changed rapidly throughout the weekend, Capirossi says the most sensible course of action should another downpour strike will be to wait and see if the rain passes rather than starting in dangerous circumstances or abandoning the event.

"The problem is here it's really difficult to understand what will happen," he told autosport.com.

"We will see. If the rain is really, really strong, we can wait a little bit because every five minutes the weather changes.

"We don't want to start with really heavy rain, we can wait ten minutes and maybe it will become better."

The weather has fluctuated throughout the weekend so far, with a series of heavy showers falling during the qualifying sessions only for the sun to then reappear and dry the track rapidly.

The MotoGP session exemplified the situation - beginning on a damp but drying track before rain struck mid-way through the hour, but conditions then improving enough for drivers to set faster times in the final few minutes.
