125cc: Pasini on provisional pole

Aprilia rider Mattia Pasini is on provisional pole position for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai following a strong finish to the opening qualifying session

Pasini didn't hit the top of the timesheet until less than five minutes remained, taking eight tenths off Lukas Pesek's earlier best, but between then and the end of the session, Pasini lowered his time twice more, setting provisional pole of 2:11.946 just after the chequered flag fell.

Second fastest rider during the session was Pesek on a Derbi, his best time just under half a second slower which he set with just over a minute remaining. Gabor Talmacsi completes the top three, the only other rider within a second of Pasini's best.

Championship contenders Hector Faubel and Simone Corsi are well-placed, fifth and sixth fastest respectively, while Joan Olive fell with five minutes remaining and is 22nd fastest, nearly 3.5 seconds off the pace.
