Moto2: Lorenzo takes late provisional pole
Reigning 250cc world champion Jorge Lorenzo took a late provisional pole position in first qualifying for the 250cc class at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia
Lorenzo hovered around the top five through most of the session, but only topped the times with two minutes remaining. However, although he only topped the times once, he stayed there, his time unbeaten in the closing minutes of the session.
However, his only remaining rival for this year's crown gave him a late scare, Andrea Dovizioso missing out on provisional pole by just 0.092 of a second with a time set after the session had finished. Alvaro Bautista also set a late lap to finish the session third fastest.
With four minutes remaining in the session Thomas Luthi was on provisional pole. By the end of the session he was fourth, with KTM rider Mika Kallio a quarter of a second behind him in sixth.
The top ten was completed by Marco Simoncelli, Hiroshi Aoyama, Roberto Locatelli, Julian Simon and Hector Barbera. 11th fastest Alex de Angelis had a fall late in the session but walked away unharmed.
