Moto2: Lorenzo commands first qualifying

Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo dominated the opening 250cc qualifying session at Assen, taking provisional pole by 0.7 seconds over nearest title rival Andrea Dovizioso

Prior to Dovizioso's late improvement, the reigning champion had been 1.2 seconds clear of the rest of the pack.

After his Donington Park accident reduced Lorenzo's once-commanding points lead to just 11 points over Dovizioso, the Spaniard was clearly keen to break away from the opposition again in Assen.

He knocked Alex de Angelis off the top early on, and proceeded to extend his pole margin whenever necessary.

Alvaro Bautista took third, ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama and Thomas Luthi. De Angelis was unable to improve on his early time and fell to seventh.

Gilera's Marco Simoncelli also starred early on, only to drop back. He held second in the opening part of the session, but ended up only eighth.
