Moto2: Lorenzo on provisional pole

Jorge Lorenzo finished the first 250cc qualifying session at Jerez with a comfortable margin over the rest of the field on Friday

The reigning world champion sat at the top of the timesheets for the entire session, as his rivals could only chip away at the early margin he had.

However, Lorenzo then blitzed the field with a late lap to establish his margin once again, and put himself out front by nearly a full second.

Marco Simoncelli was second fastest on his Gilera, while Hector Barbera continued to show the strong form he had in Qatar by setting the third fastest time.

Roberto Locatelli currently occupies the final slot on the front row of the grid, while Shuhei Aoyama leads the second row after the first session.

Julian Simon, Alvaro Bautista and Fabrizio Lai currently fill the second row of the grid, while the top 10 is completed by Andrea Dovizioso and Thomas Luthi.
