Maserati snatch final-hour Spa win
The Vitaphone Maserati team have taken a shock victory in the 24 Hours of Spa, moving ahead of race-long leaders Phoenix Racing in the final hour
The MC12 of Michael Bartels, Andrea Bertolini and Eric van de Poele jumped the DBR9 of Andrea Piccini, Jean-Denis Deletraz, Stephane Lemeret and Marcel Fassler in what appeared to be the last round of pitstops.
However, the Phoenix car came in for a final stop with just minutes of the race left, leaving the Maserati to secure a second consecutive victory in the FIA GT Championship's flagship event.
The GLPK Corvette C6.R of Mike Hezemans, Anthony Kumpen, Bert Longin and Kurt Mollekens claimed the final podium position, finishing ahead of the Aston Martin BMS DBR9 of Christian Pescatori, Fabio Babini, Thomas Enge and Peter Kox.
In the GT2 class, AF Corse scored a one-two finish, the Ferrari 430 of Rui Aguas, Mika Salo and Timo Scheider finishing ahead of team-mates Matteo Bobbi, Jaime Melo and Stephane Ortelli.
Completing the GT2 podium was the Scuderia Ecosse 430 of Andrew Kirkaldy, Nathan Kinch and Marino Franchitti.
