British round confirmed for 2007
Promoters of the FIA GT championship have confirmed that last weekend's British round - dubbed the 'Silverstone Supercar Showdown' - will again take place at the Northamptonshire circuit on 4-6 May next year
The Stephane Ratel Organisation and The Royal Automobile Club, the joint event promoters, were satisfied enough with the attendance and response from last weekend's round to announce next year's date at this early stage.
It was the first round to be held at Silverstone since the FIA GT championship's split with the crowd-pulling World Touring Car Championship.
"We have witnessed great interest from Supercar fans from all over the UK and from Europe this weekend and are happy to announce a weekend crowd of 15,000," said Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuit.
"We now look forward to developing this new and exciting event in future years".
Among the events this weekend was the staging of the inaugural London to Silverstone Supercar Tour, where 30 cars drove the 80 miles from Pall Mall, London, to Silverstone under police escort.
The lead Vitaphone Racing Masterati MC12 of Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini won the RAC Tourist Trophy at Silverstone yesterday.
