Gollin/Hezemans win at Adria
Fabrizio Gollin and Mike Hezemans took victory in the FIA GT Championship evening event at Adria, as the Phoenix Corvette team came out on top of a race-long battle with champions Vitaphone Maserati
For much of the two-hour race, which started just before 8pm local time and finished after dark, Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels in the No.1 Vitaphone car and Marcel Fassler and Jean-Denis Deletraz in the No.5 Phoenix Corvette had tussled fiercely for the lead.
But a slow final stop for the latter duo and a penalty for the Maserati meant it was the No.6 Phoenix entry that emerged in the lead in the final stint, despite an earlier trip off the road while racing for third with the No.33 JetAlliance Aston Martin.
Once ahead, Gollin edged away to take the chequered flag with a comfortable advantage while Fassler and Bertolini battled for second.
Fassler came close to making it a Phoenix one-two as he piled pressure on Bertolini in the closing minutes, but in the end the Maserati was able to pull slightly clear and claim second.
The Selleslagh team made it three Corvettes in the top four as Christophe Bouchut and Xavier Maassen resisted late pressure from the Greg Franchi/Vincent Vosse Larbre Saleen to claim fourth.
With both JetAlliance Aston Martins hitting mechanical problems, Gigawave ended up as the top DBR9 runners - Philipp Peter and Allan Simonsen coming home sixth.
AF Corse Ferrari scored a one-two in GT2, with Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Villander taking the class win and their teammates Thomas Biagi and Christian Montanari fending off Paulo Ruberti and Matteo Malucelli's Scuderia Italia Ferrari for second.
The Prospeed Porsche of Richard Westbrook and Emmanuel Collard was only fifth in class behind the Jamie Davies/Fabio Babini Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari, but had been fighting for the class lead before being delayed in the pits while a broken headlight was attended to.
