Maserati wins Trophy at Silverstone

The lead Vitaphone Racing Masterati MC12 of Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini has won the RAC Tourist Trophy at Silverstone

The winning drivers were joined on the podium by Jarek Janis and Sascha Bert in the Zakspeed Saleen S7R, and Fabio Babini and Fabrizio Gollin in the Aston Martin Racing BMS DBR9.

The three-hour race marked the first round of the 2006 FIA GT Championship, with Vitaphone Racing making a strong start to their teams' title defence.

In the GT2 class, AF Corse drivers Matteo Bobbi and Jaime Melo took the new Ferrari 430 GT2 to victory, ahead of the Ebimotors Porsche 996 GT3 RSR of Emmanuel Collard and Luica Riccitelli.

Former Formula One driver Mika Salo and teammate Rui Aguas - also racing a 430 for AF Corse - came home third.
