Corvette on pole at Silverstone

The Corvette C6.R of Mike Hezemans, Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen has taken pole for the Tourist Trophy at Silverstone tomorrow

In wet conditions, the GLPK-Carsport team set a qualifying lap half a second quicker than the second-placed Zakspeed Racing Saleen S7 R of Sascha Bert and Jarek Janis. The series' new-for-2006 qualifying format saw one session of just 20 minutes.

Lining up on the second row of the grid for the opening round of the FIA GT Championship will be the Phoenix Racing Aston Martin DBR9 of Jean-Denis Deletraz and Andrea Piccini, and the Vitaphone Racing Maserati MC12 of Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini.

Briton Jamie Davies will take 7th on the grid with the Vitaphone MC12 he shares with Thomas Biagi.

In their FIA GT debut, reigning British GT Champions Scuderia Ecosse set the fastest time in the GT2 class - qualifying eighth overall - in the Ferrari 430 GT2 driven by Nathan Kinch and Andrew Kirkaldy.
