Zaugg takes pole for sprint race

Adrian Zaugg and Team South Africa played the conditions to perfection to grab the first sprint race pole position for the new A1GP season

In the first qualifying under the new rules, Zaugg was the first driver on track in session one. But despite having some of the driest conditions, his time was just beaten by Loic Duval for Team France.

But in the second session, Zaugg was on track in the final, drying minutes. And while Duval was running over the gravel at Turn 5, Zaugg was stringing together an excellent pole lap.

Duval's earlier time remained good enough for second, ensuring a front row lock-out for Conor Motorsport (DAMS) cars.

Salvador Duran maintained his good form to take third for Mexico, while free practice two pacesetter Neel Jani was a strong fourth for Team Switzerland.

Jeroen Bleekemolen used his local track knowledge to good effect and took fifth, while Christian Vietoris made up for a disappointing showing in Q1, with a run to sixth in Q2.

Ralph Firman pulled a great lap out the bag in the final seconds to nab seventh for Ireland, while Oliver Jarvis just put Team GB in the top 10.
