Weekend review and results round-up
Until this weekend, Valentino Rossi had never missed a MotoGP race through injury, but the Italian legend had the most serious accident of his career in practice at Mugello on Saturday and now faces a long lay-off with a broken leg
Although that looked set to hand the title to his Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa's dominant victory for Honda in Sunday's race suggested the championship might not be decided just yet.
In the four-wheeled world, Ryan Briscoe and Danica Patrick made up for their poor starts to the IndyCar season by fighting for victory at Texas Motor Speedway, with Briscoe emerging on top.
Tin-top action saw Bruno Spengler end a long DTM winning drought, but only after pitstop problems for Paul di Resta, while Matt Neal emerged with the points lead after a spectacular British Touring Car weekend at Oulton Park.
There were significant results in the Netherlands and Sardinia too, with Valterri Bottas becoming the first ever two-time winner of the Formula 3 Masters, and Juho Hanninen extending his Intercontinental Rally Challenge points lead by winning a hard-fought and attritional Italian round.
