Eng leads Zolder F2 test

Philipp Eng was quickest in Formula 2 testing at Zolder on Tuesday ahead of this weekend's races at the Belgian track

The Austrian is hoping to get back into the thick of the title fight at Zolder, having dropped to third in the standings behind Jolyon Palmer and Dean Stoneman since taking two wins in the early rounds.

He ended testing just over a tenth of a second ahead of Kazim Vasiliauskas, with morning pacesetter Nicola de Marco taking third, ahead of Ricardo Teixeira and local driver Benjamin Bailly.

"I felt very comfortable straight away and it ended up being quite an easy day," Eng said.

"I think we were a little bit lucky to be so far ahead of the others because of the red flags but I am feeling good - I like the circuit and I am really looking forward to the weekend."

Championship leader Palmer was back in 12th, but had been quickest in the penultimate session, whereas the best times of the day were set when overboost use was permitting for the final part of the test. His nearest points rival Stoneman took eighth.
