Weekend review and result round-up
Sebastien Loeb and Valentino Rossi: undeniably the greatest talents in their field, but both legends have had to fight a little bit harder to fend off their younger rivals in 2009
This weekend they added to their incredible career achievements with a sixth World Rally Championship title and a seventh MotoGP crown respectively, as Loeb beat Mikko Hirvonen in their 'winner takes all' Rally GB head to head, and Rossi finally saw off Jorge Lorenzo's challenge at a wet Sepang, finishing third while Casey Stoner dominated.
It is too soon to call Timo Scheider a DTM legend, but his second straight title boosted his standing in series history, the Audi driver following championship rival Gary Paffett home at Hockenheim.
Vitaphone's Maseratis have been a dominant force in the FIA GT Championship for several years now, and the squad duly wrapped up another title double at Zolder in the final race before the split into World GT1 and European GT2. But there could be trouble ahead, with PK Carsport launching a protest against Vitaphone's tactics.
In NASCAR, Denny Hamlin halted Jimmie Johnson's winning run at Martinsville, but the Hendrick man still looks on course for a fourth straight title.
