Series forced to delay biofuel debut
The A1GP field will not compete at Zandvoort this weekend using the 30 per cent biofuel mix that series organisers were hoping to race with
The series announced that it would switch to the more environmentally-friendly fuel in August, but plans to use it in all cars at the final pre-season test also had to be scrapped.
Test cars have completed 4,600 kilometres with the new fuel, but technical advisers are not convinced that the new mix will guarantee the required engine performance over a more sustained period of time.
A1GP CEO Pete da Silva said: "It is highly regrettable that we have not been able to start A1GP's third season running on our planned biofuel mix.
"We have undertaken 4,600 kilometres of testing, however, we must ensure that the long-term impact of our fuel change does not impact on our on-track action."
The technical team that made the decision to race on regular fuel this weekend consists of experts from A1GP, Zytek, and fuel provider PetroChem Carless.
Despite the introduction of the fuel being delayed for a second time, series officials have said that they are still committed to racing with the biofuel as soon as possible.
