Reid not getting carried away

Jonny Reid said it was too early to start thinking about the A1GP title after dominating rounds three and four of the 2007/8 championship at Brno

The Team New Zealand driver drove around the outside of polesitter Adrian Zaugg before pulling away in the sprint race, and then charged from seventh on the grid to win the feature race by seven seconds.

The results put the team at the head of the standings, albeit only one point ahead of South Africa.

"We'll enjoy this one, but remember that it's early days in the championship and we have to remain focused on race wins and big points hauls," Reid said.

He believes the standard of competition has increased since the 2006/7 season, when he took three wins.

"It's not easy out there because the level has definitely gone up this year," said Reid. "But everything went 110 per cent today and the guys in the pits did such a fantastic job it allowed me to concentrate on all-out attack on the track."

Team boss David Sears reckons Reid has also raised his game.

"He's definitely stronger physically and mentally, and that means a greater focus and less mistakes," Sears said. "No-one could keep up with him today."

South African driver Adrian Zaugg - who had taken pole for the first three races of the season and won round one in Holland - only managed fourth and 16th in the Czech races. He made a poor start in race one, then damaged his car in a collision with Robbie Kerr in the feature race before later stalling in the pits.

Team manager Mike Carroll was relieved that Zaugg's problems did not cost the squad more ground in the standings.

"We're happy to still be in a strong position in the championship, but we're disappointed we were not able to convert our strong qualifying performance into better results," he said.

"We struggled all weekend on old tyres, but were very quick on new rubber. This circuit is very abrasive. We must have been asking too much of the tyres."
