Mexico ask Jourdain to do full season

The World Touring Car Championship driver and former Champ Car race winner finished 13th in the sprint race and was last in the feature race after losing his front wing in a pitlane collision with Khalil Beschir. But the team were impressed with Jourdain's pace as he set the fifth-fastest lap while recovering from the delay.

The A1GP races were Jourdain's first single-seater starts since he left Champ Car at the end of 2004.

"In one phrase I can summarize what we feel: 'respect and admiration for Michel', because of the courage and the effort he put into this weekend knowing that he had no experience driving this car and that the A1 is very demanding," Jauregui said.

"We are very happy because Michel was fifth fastest, knowing that for other drivers it took them longer to adapt to the car. That's why I am amazed with a driver like Michel who did not have enough experience or testing with these cars.

"We want to give him the opportunity to be with us as our main driver. We don't know yet his decision, but we are going to discuss it later in Mexico, since we want him back."

Jourdain said he was relatively satisfied with his series debut.

"I was improving my driving during the whole weekend and even though the result was not good, we are leaving happy because we were fast in the race and improved our performance," he said.

"We would have liked to collect some points, but we knew it was going to be difficult to achieve it in this first race."
