Porsche downplay overall win chances
Porsche have admitted that they do not expect to challenge Audi for overall victory at Road America this weekend
The LMP2 RS Spyder has won the last five races in the American Le Mans Series, but the long straights at Road America should allow the LMP1 Audi R10s to take advantage of their extra power.
"It will be hard to overcome the LMP1 horsepower advantage at Road America's four-mile track," said Uwe Brettel, president of Porsche Motorsport North America.
"The LMP1 cars have approximately a 225 horsepower advantage over our class in addition to wider tyres, which gives them more rubber for longer tyre life."
The majority of the tracks visited by the ALMS so far this season have either been street circuits, or tight and twisty road courses, which favour the lighter LMP2 cars.
The Audis were in contention for victory last time out at Mid-Ohio, however they lost out in the pitstops as the rules state that diesel cars must run smaller fuel tanks, and they have to refuel at a reduced speed as well.
