Monras sets F2 practice pace
Miki Monras carried his Formula 2 testing form into free practice as he went quickest in the opening session at Magny-Cours
Most of the quick times were set on fresh rubber during the early stages as many of the drivers then saved their remaining new tyres for other sessions, and Monras was no exception as he set the pace in 1m30.946s within eight laps.
Championship leader Mirko Bortolotti, who shared the wins with Monras at the Silverstone season-opener, was second fastest, 0.221s behind, while Mihai Marinescu and Ramon Pineiro completed the top four.
Will Bratt and Christopher Zanella were next up, ahead of series debutant Jon Lancaster.
The previously unheralded Johannes Theobald continued his surprising upturn in pace with the eighth best time, ahead of Alex Brundle.
Benjamin Lariche completed the top 10, but ended his session early with a spin into the gravel at Estoril bend. Any hopes that the rest of the field had of improving their times were ended when Natalia Kowalska went off at the Adelaide hairpin and brought out the yellow flags.
