Meira replaces Franchitti for Petit
Vitor Meira will drive for Andretti Green Racing at Petit Le Mans this weekend in place of Dario Franchitti
Franchitti had been scheduled to share the team's LMP2 Acura with Bryan Herta and Tony Kanaan, but he has been released from his contract with the team as he prepares to join Chip Ganassi Racing in NASCAR.
While Andretti Green confirmed the IndyCar Series champion's departure from the team on Tuesday, Franchitti's name initially remained on the Petit Le Mans entry list.
"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm looking forward to driving for Andretti Green Racing with Bryan and Tony," said Meira, who has raced against the team in the IndyCar Series in recent years.
"I know everyone has put a lot of effort into the car and hopefully I can help them win their first Petit Le Mans."
Team boss Michael Andretti added: "Vitor has shown a lot of speed throughout his career and will help give us a good shot to compete for a win this weekend.
"He's done a great job for Honda over the years and we're excited about seeing him in the Acura this weekend with Bryan and Tony."
