Luhr replaces concussed Pirro
Lucas Luhr has been called up to replace Emanuele Pirro at Audi after the Italian was unable to recover from the concussion he sustained in practice at Road Atlanta
Marco Werner had completed all of the laps in practice and qualifying for the No.2 Audi R10 while Pirro rested, but he has been unable to recover sufficiently to take part in the 10-hour race.
Luhr, who races for Audi in the DTM, was scheduled to race the Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Ferrari 430 in the GT2 class, but the team gave him the go-ahead to race the Audi R10 for the second time this year.
"Audi asked if we would be willing to allow Lucas to replace Pirro today," said Petersen/White Lightning entrant and team manager Dale White. "It was entirely left to us and there was no pressure from Audi whatsoever.
"We are certainly disappointed that Lucas won't be racing with us but there was no question on the decision."
The driver change for the No.2 Audi, which was fastest in qualifying, means that it will start the race from the back of the grid.
