McNish and Capello win Petit Le Mans
Allan McNish and Dindo Capello won Petit Le Mans for Audi on Saturday by less than one second from the lead Penske Porsche RS Spyder
Capello took advantage of a caution in the final hour of the event to close up on Romain Dumas, who had a 30-second lead in his Porsche before that.
"If the yellow had not come out, I don't think I could have caught him," said Capello, who sealed a second consecutive LMP1 title with McNish by taking victory.
"His pace was so strong that it didn't let me relax. I only realised when I crossed the line that Romain was the closest car to me."
McNish had suffered a scare at the three-hour mark when he was caught up in an incident with several other cars, and the Scot lost a lap when he was forced to come in for a nose change.
The second Audi also hit trouble, but Marco Werner and Lucas Luhr lost nearly one hour while repairs were carried out following a collision with a GT1 car.
Dumas and Timo Bernhard took the LMP2 drivers' title with their class victory with Patrick Long, and Dumas admitted that Audi were probably due some luck after a difficult season in America.
"We won Mosport with luck and today the luck was on the other side," said Dumas. "Unfortunately the safety car came out and took away our gap, but I tried to keep the pressure on Dindo. It was a great race."
Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Max Papis took the GT1 victory, while their main rivals - the second works Corvette and the Lista Doran Maserati - were both caught up in incidents.
"The traffic was suicidal at some points today," said Gavin, who sealed the GT1 title with Beretta. "Fortunately everyone in the No.4 car kept it on the road."
Flying Lizard Motorsports took the GT2 victory, and the class title battle will go down to the wire after Jaime Melo, Mika Salo and Johnny Mowlem could only finish sixth due to electrical problems.
