Jarvis expects level playing field

Oliver Jarvis believes that the new Beijing street track will level the playing field for his A1GP debut next weekend

The British F3 driver has been offered the chance of a race seat after driving in the rookie sessions for the first two rounds of the season.

Jarvis admits that it would be easier to make his competitive debut on a more conventional track, but he is hoping that the new layout will mean nobody has an advantage over him.

"I've seen a mock-up of the circuit layout but it will be new to all of us when we get there," he said, "and that's probably a good thing.

"Nobody will have an advantage heading into Friday practice so hopefully there should be a more level playing field."

Jarvis had his first experience of street racing at Pau earlier this year in F3, and shortly after Beijing he will head to Macau for the Formula Three Grand Prix.

"Street racing is a unique experience, and it's fantastic," he said. "Racing so close to the walls provides some unique challenges."

The young Brit is hoping to be as near to the front as possible on his debut, but he is being realistic about his targets for the race on a difficult new track.

"I'm looking forward to doing a solid job despite it being a potentially difficult first weekend," he said.

"It would have been easier for me to make my debut on a normal circuit, but I'm grateful to the team for the opportunity."
