Fauzy returns to Team Malaysia
Fairuz Fauzy will drive for Team Malaysia in the rookie sessions in China after a rule change by A1GP organisers
The definition of an A1GP rookie has been changed after the first two rounds of the series. Drivers under the age of 28 with no more than six A1GP race starts can now take part in the sessions, meaning Fauzy can drive on a Friday.
Previously, drivers were not eligible for the rookie sessions once they had made three starts, and Fauzy competed in four races last season.
Alex Yoong took a double victory for Malaysia in the last round at Brno, but the team feel they have been at a disadvantage to the nations that have had drivers in the rookie sessions.
Fauzy said: "I've been concentrating on my GP2 commitments up to this point, so this is a timely announcement for me.
"Alex has had a great start to the season with his two wins, so if I can help the team maintain this performance level, I'll be very proud."
After Beijing the series heads to Malaysia for the fourth round, where Fauzy is looking forward to getting some track time.
"It's a privilege to be back representing my country and supporting the team," he said, "and it will be a great honour for me to drive in front of all the local fans in Malaysia."
The Malaysian team are currently third in the standings, just three points adrift of leaders Germany.
