Jarvis comfortable under pressure

Oliver Jarvis has said that he was controlling the pace ahead of Jonathan Summerton towards the end of the A1GP feature race in Mexico on Sunday

The British driver led for the majority of the race, but his lead was always small, and Summerton's American car closed to within two seconds in the closing stages.

However, Jarvis held on to take the first victory for Team Great Britain, and he said afterwards that he had been comfortable at the front as his lead decreased.

"Jonathan pushed really hard at the end," he said, "but I felt I had everything under control through to the chequered. I just maintained a comfortable gap and brought the car home."

The Mexican event was just the second weekend where Jarvis has been the lead driver for the team this season, and he paid tribute to his team, including regular driver Robbie Kerr.

"Everyone's worked so hard for this result and it's a great reward for their efforts," he added. "Without the boys this wouldn't be possible.

"I think Robbie will be delighted for the team as he knows more than anyone else how hard they work."

The result comes at a good time for the team, as their home event at Brands Hatch is just one month away.

"This is a great boost for the whole team ahead of our return to home soil for the season finale at Brands Hatch," said Jarvis. "Hopefully it won't be so long now until the next British win."
