Germany head practice at Brno

A1GP reigning champions Team Germany headed first official practice for this weekend's race at Brno

In cold, slightly damp conditions, Christian Vietoris had a clear advantage over the chasing pack, lapping more than half a second quicker than anyone else.

On his return to the series, Robbie Kerr was next up for Team Great Britain, and he was pleased with his performance.

"It's great to be back in the car and be right on the pace," he said. "There are a few tweaks we'll need to make if we are going to stay at the front for the rest of the weekend."

Jonny Reid was third for New Zealand, just ahead of the Dutch entry of Jeroen Bleekemolen.

Joao Urbano was a promising fifth for Portugal, while Adam Carroll got his A1GP career off to a solid start with the sixth best time, 1.2 seconds off Germany's session-topping pace.

Nicolas Prost had his first official run-out for Team France in the rookie sessions, but it was Nicolas Lapierre - one half of the French duo that dominated season one - who was back in for the main session and race duties. The GP2 veteran was seventh.

Sergio Jimenez was eighth for Brazil, while series leaders South Africa set the ninth best time with Adrian Zaugg in the car. Narain Karthikeyan rounded out the top 10 for India, despite mechanical problems limiting his track time.
