Injured Mowlem to miss Laguna

British sportscar driver Johnny Mowlem has been forced to withdraw from the Zytek prototype team for the Laguna Seca American Le Mans Series finale with a wrist injury

The 38-year-old, who was due to make his prototype return in the Californian event on October 20, has pulled out in the wake of the injury sustained in the previous ALMS round.

Mowlem crashed the Risi Competizione Ferrari 430 GT on dropped oil during the morning warm-up at Road Atlanta earlier this month and opted out of the race.

"When I returned to the UK and discovered that the damage to my right wrist was worse than originally thought, I had no option but to consider that I wasn't going to be fit enough to do credit to the entire Zytek operation," Mowlem said. "I'm gutted to have to pull out, because the Zytek LMP2 car looks like it is tailor-made for Laguna."

Zytek Motorsport team director Trevor Foster said: "Johnny did a first-class job when he raced for us in the US last year and I hope there will be an opportunity to work with him again in the near future."

Mowlem will travel to Laguna as Zytek's guest for the race.
