Firman quickest in second practice
Formula One experience continued to show its worth in the second free practice session in Sepang, with Team Ireland's Ralph Firman setting the pace
For the second session in a row, the 23 A1 GP cars - Timo Scheider will take over the dormant Team Germany car tomorrow - kept it clean and the hour-long session ran uninterrupted. That was much like Firman's place at the head of the times, although for a brief moment - at the start of the hour - Sean McIntosh had the honour of being P1.
With all the teams conserving tyres for tomorrow's qualifying session, none of the drivers threatened Jos Verstappen's best effort from earlier, but nevertheless Firman's best lap of 1:56.663 was a strong effort on used rubber.
McIntosh was in impressive form in second, while Bryan Herta had his best showing so far in third, ahead of his fellow IRL IndyCar driver Tomas Enge in the Team Czech Republic entry.
Alex Premat was ragged in the Team France car, but the championship leaders still looked threatening in fifth, just ahead of nearest title challenger - the Team Brazil car of Nelson Piquet Jr.
Robbie Kerr was seventh fastest for Team Great Britain while Team China surprised by setting the 15th quickest time. Mathias Lauda was out of luck in the Team Austria car, with a technical problem preventing him from setting a time.
