Drivers bemoan lack of grip
The A1 Grand Prix drivers fear that qualifying could be a lottery after 'green' track conditions at Sepang today meant they spent more time sliding around than getting the car well-balanced
As crowd-pleasing as the oversteering Lola-Zytek cars were to watch as they slid around the Malaysian track, the lack of grip on the surface - which was washed clean by overnight storms and are expected again tonight - has left them with a quandary over qualifying and race set-ups.
Team Ireland's Ralph Firman, who set the pace in the second session said: "It's like driving in the rain, there's so little grip out there."
Team Holland's Jos Verstappen set the best time of the day in the first session, but despite that he's not confident of a strong qualifying position.
"Everything we tried didn't work for long," he said. "So I don't know where we are for tomorrow."
Nelson Piquet Jr was second quickest overall for Team Brazil and reckons the race could be a challenge.
"I think we'll be strong in qualifying, but I'm worried that we work the tyre too hard in the race."
