Doornbos prepared for title fight

Champ Car rookie Robert Doornbos believes that he will be a part of a tight scrap for the title for the remainder of this season

The Minardi Team USA driver took his maiden win last weekend at Mont-Tremblant, which has put him level on points with Sebastien Bourdais at the top of the standings.

"I think it's going to be a very close race for the championship from this point on, and we have to remain very much on our toes if we want to keep winning," said Doornbos.

The Dutch driver added that he is now feeling settled at the team, and he believes that he can have another good result this weekend around the streets of Toronto.

"I think we can continue like this," he said. "I feel very comfortable, I feel that I'm in control with the team, and I can motivate them.

"As the season continues, we are getting stronger and stronger, and I think that will be very clear once again in Toronto."

Doornbos' victory last weekend was his fifth podium finish in his first six Champ Car starts, and he believes that the team can continue to prove that their results have been genuine.

"We are going to Toronto with as much confidence as ever," he said. "We hope to continue to show our competitiveness this weekend, and back-up the victory in Mont-Tremblant."
