Dominguez vows to bounce back
Mario Dominguez has vowed to bounce back from the disappointment of throwing away near-certain victory in the Champ Car Grand Prix of Houston by winning his home race in Mexico this weekend
Dominguez had dominated the first half of the race from pole position when he threw the win away by overshooting the Turn 5 braking zone on the 66th of the race's 100 laps.
The Forsythe Racing driver eventually finished third behind Sebastian Bourdais and teammate Paul Tracy. He admitted that the error was his fault, but hoped that he could bounce back immediately at this weekend's race.
"For Monterrey, I'm very motivated, focused," Dominguez said. "I really want the revenge over there. I'm going to go over there and give it my best shot.
"Sebastien pressured me pretty good. He was saving fuel. I knew he was saving fuel. I had to save fuel and at the same time stay in the lead. That's where I got caught. I locked up the rear tires, just went straight into the runoff and lost first place. I was really fighting for it, doing my best to save first place.
"I was doing it. It's unfortunate that I lost the race, but at the same time I think it's very positive that we showed today that we can be the fastest, we can get the pole position, run at the front. If I fine tune a couple things like that... I hadn't led a race since 2003."
