Bourdais stays calm with Doornbos
Sebastien Bourdais has remained calm after being taken out by championship rival Robert Doornbos at Toronto on Sunday
The Frenchman was highly critical of the rookie for the way he defended his race lead in the previous race at Mont-Tremblant, but he decided against a similar rant after the Minardi driver ploughed into the back of him while the pair were fighting over fifth place at Toronto.
"Robert made a small mistake but it had a big consequence on both the race and the standings," said Bourdais, who is now third in the championship behind Doornbos and Will Power.
"I could see in his eyes (at the crash site) that he was sorry and he apologised after the race. We've had some tough luck this season."
Bourdais said that he knew nothing about the incident, where Doornbos ran straight into the back of him under braking at Turn 3.
"I didn't see anything, he just t-boned me and was able to continue which gained him another six or so points which was enough to take over the lead," the reigning champion added.
Doornbos added that he felt the collision was a racing incident in the tricky conditions towards the end of the race.
"It was a racing incident, it was very tricky conditions out there and it could have happened to anybody," he said.
"I got on the brakes at the same place as always, but I ran up on Sebastien, lost the downforce on my car, and turned him around."
Doornbos now leads the standings by two points from Power, while Bourdais is just one more point back in third.
