Trident joins GP2 grid

Trident Racing have today been confirmed as the thirteenth team in GP2 by the series' organisers, who released the confirmed list of teams to compete in 2006

The team, who are jointly owned by Gimmi Bruni's manager Maurizio Salvadori and AC Milan football star Clarence Seedorf, had long been rumoured to be seeking entry into the series.

Trident had originally planned to form a partnership with Prema Powerteam to run the GP2 programme, but an agreement was not reached between the two teams - Trident will now run their own GP2 team, with Prema forming a new squad in the World Series by Renault.

GP2 series boss Bruno Michel noted at the announcement: "Trident Racing put forwards a proposal which promised strong sporting and engineering excellence with a rigorous and stable financial plan.

"Theirs was a proposal which could not be overlooked, and I am very happy to welcome them to the GP2 family."

All twelve existing teams confirmed their entry for 2006 by Tuesday's deadline, and will be allocated race numbers in accordance with the final standings for 2005 with Trident receiving the final two numbers.
