Glock welcomes change in luck

Timo Glock believes that the luck in the GP2 title battle is more balanced after Lucas di Grassi retired from second place on Saturday

The iSport driver fell back into the clutches of the Brazilian with four consecutive retirements in the middle of the season, and he expressed his fears that reliability problems could cost him the title.

However, di Grassi's retirement enabled Glock to extend his championship lead to 11 points with just two double-header rounds remaining, despite the fact that the German had fallen way down the field after an off at he first corner.

"I think it's maybe a bit equal now," said Glock. "We had several races without a point and now he's had the bad luck.

"I was P20 on the first lap, and Lucas was second and on the way to scoring more points and take the championship lead, I couldn't believe it.

"But I thought we had to fight back as hard as we can, like the whole year. At the end I was P4 and with the luck at the end when Lucas had a problem with his car I opened the gap in the championship again."

Glock went on to win the second race of the weekend on Sunday, while di Grassi climbed from 13th on the grid to fourth, after his ART mechanics worked through the night repairing his broken gearbox.

Di Grassi said: "With two laps less I would have taken the lead in the championship, but that's racing.

"The championship is still very open though, and what happened to me could happen to Timo at Spa or Valencia"
