Comtec eyeing manufacturer project

Comtec Racing team boss Jonathan Lewis wants to link up with a manufacturer for a project in touring cars or the Le Mans 24 hours

The British team won the World Series by Renault title in their first season with Alx Danielsson, and Lewis believes that the only way for the team to progress any further is to join up with a manufacturer.

"We've gone as far as we can without being ridiculously rich or stupid," Lewis told autosport.com. "I'd like a manufacturer to take us seriously now.

"I believe our future is with a manufacturer. We've proved our credentials and we deserve a touring car project or something at Le Mans."

Lewis added that he would prefer to compete in the British Touring Car Championship rather than the world championship, but he also said that the team wants to carry on in World Series by Renault.

"Hopefully we can continue to be very good at World Series, but we can only lose that now.

"We've looked at GP2, but what scares me about that is the amount of money involved, and we wouldn't even be in garages on race weekends.

"In World Series we are king of the castle, in GP2 we would just be a second class citizen in the Formula One show."
