Watts to race at Thruxton

Danny Watts will make a one-off return to British Formula Three action this weekend at Thruxton with Double R Racing

The 26-year-old last competed in the series full time back in 2004, but has been working with the team as a driver coach for the past two years, and will race for them for the first time in the season finale.

"For the team to give me this opportunity is really kind," said Watts, "and I want to repay their faith in me by being at the sharp end."

Double R sealed the drivers' championship with Mike Conway last weekend at Silverstone, and the team are now focused on securing a 1-2 in the standings with Bruno Senna.

Watts made a one-off appearance for Alan Docking Racing last season at Castle Combe, where he took a second place in race two behind eventual champion Alvaro Parente.

The Buckinghamshire driver had won at Castle Combe in the past and considered it one of his favourite tracks, but he is also a fan of the fast Thruxton circuit.

"It is one of my favourite tracks and has been successful for me in the past," he said. "In 2003 I qualified on pole position and led the race before being elbowed off the track."
