Returnee Watts on Thruxton pole
Danny Watts clinched pole position on his Formula Three comeback at Thruxton this morning
Watts, racing for champions Double R this weekend, was the only driver to break the 1:07 barrier when he bettered Oliver Jarvis' time with eight minutes of the session remaining.
Bruno Senna kept his hopes of finishing second in the championship alive by qualifying just behind Jarvis in third, while Maro Engel finished up fourth after setting the pace early in the session.
Recently crowned champion Mike Conway could only manage sixth fastest.
Formula Three debutants Greg and Leo Mansell ended their first qualifying session in 12th and 15th places respectively, while fellow Formula BMW graduate Oliver Turvey qualified 19th.
The fastest National Class runner was again Rodolfo Gonzalez, in thirteenth place.
