Conway targets GP2 for 2007
New British Formula Three champion Mike Conway is aiming for GP2 next year but admits that he doesn't have any tests confirmed yet
The pre-season title favourite wrapped it up in convincing style at Silverstone last weekend, and after getting a taste of GP2 action at Silverstone in June, he is hungry for more.
"Doing the race at Silverstone this year really motivated me to want to get into GP2 next year," Conway told autosport.com. "It's a fantastic series, and for any driver in Europe it's the biggest series after Formula One.
"Hopefully we can do some testing over the winter, but nothing is confirmed yet and we still have one more F3 round to do at Thruxton this weekend before we can focus on the winter."
Conway admitted that he had been under a lot of pressure this year to perform in F3, as several front-runners from last year had moved on.
"All we could do this year was F3, but we knew we had to be with the right team and get the job done," he said. "After winning the title I could finally switch off this week, and I've felt a bit ill actually."
The Brit also admitted that the emotion of winning the title only hit him as he neared the finish line on Sunday.
"I had been able to keep it out of my head all weekend, and even during the race as I just concentrated on pulling out a gap," he said, "but in the last few corners I realised what was about to happen, and on the radio afterwards the team couldn't get any words out of me, I was pretty choked."
