Watts the story?

Autosport.com's resident British F3 ace Danny Watts enjoyed a welcome upswing in his fortunes at Silverstone at the weekend, as he explains in his latest column

The Silverstone weekend was certainly one of my more enjoyable race weekends for a number of reasons. Although we didn't even make it out for the second race thanks to the typically fickle Silverstone weather, the first race was a great result to finish fifth in difficult conditions - Lola's best ever result in the British F3 Championship.

It was well needed especially after the Donington nightmare we had where I suffered a head-on accident into the wall avoiding two spinning cars. Lola and Promatecme have put in so much hard work since Donington and fifth place was a good reward for us all, and I could tell the team spirit has risen to a new level.

We have to keep pushing even harder now because we're getting closer to the sharp end and ultimately the next stage and target is the podium.

The Silverstone weekend being my home race (I live in Buckingham) was manic from start to finish. We had many guests throughout the weekend to look after including family, friends, sponsors and, of course, all my friends from "Smile" Gentleman's Club in Milton Keynes which bought us some fantastic publicity!

The race itself was game of two halves. It started wet then became damp for the final half of the race. The Lola was very driveable in wet conditions but as it dried from half distance onwards it came to me and suited the conditions perfectly.

We were homing in on Adam Carroll right at the death but ran out of laps to make a move. Overall we were pleased with how it went and with some more budget (we run out after Knockhill) and track time to develop the car further, we will be in good shape for Croft in less than 2 weeks where I hope the weather will be a bit nicer!
