Kobayashi takes maiden pole

Kamui Kobayashi has taken his first pole position of the season for the opening F3 Euro Series race supporting the French Grand Prix

The Japanese driver beat ASM teammate Romain Grosjean to the top spot by just 0.021 seconds.

Grosjean had stated before the weekend that he was determined to score his first pole position of the season at his home race, but he will be satisfied that he is two places ahead of championship leader Sebastian Buemi.

Signature driver Yann Clairay had his best qualifying session of the year to finish the session third on the grid, while Manor Motorsport teammates James Jakes and Franck Mailleux completed the top six.

Yelmer Buurman and Renger van der Zande made the fourth row of the grid an all-Dutch affair, although they will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the collision they had with each other at the Norisring last weekend.

Norisring race two winner Nico Hulkenberg could only manage ninth place on the grid, and the German was six tenths of a second adrift of his teammates on the front row.
