Asmer beats Engel to race two win
Marko Asmer emerged on top of a spectacular duel with Maro Engel to win the second British Formula Three race at Monza
Engel (Carlin Motorsport) took the lead at the start whilst all manner of chaos unfurled behind him, with all three Double R cars (Stephen Jelley, Jonathan Kennard and Atte Mustonen) spinning or going off at the first corner.
Mario Moraes was quickly up to second place, but mainly as a result of a jumped start for which he was later given a drive-through penalty.
That put Asmer into second, some distance adrift of the leader, but he calmly hunted Engel down and passed him.
Engel briefly took the lead back with a couple of laps to go, but points leader Asmer reclaimed the place while Engel then tried a little too hard on the final lap to make a last-gasp move possible.
Sam Bird put himself into clear air in third place after a couple of early passing moves, and then drove a clean race to the final podium place.
His Carlin team-mate Niall Breen was fourth, ahead of the recovering Kennard, Sebastian Hohenthal (Fortec Motorsport) and National Class winner Sergio Perez (T-Sport).
