Bird eager to start closing gap
Sam Bird believes that he needs to start putting more pressure on British Formula Three championship leader Marko Asmer if he is to have a chance of fighting for the title
The F3 rookie is second in the championship to Asmer after five rounds of this season, but he has admitted that it will be hard to catch the Estonian.
"Marko is going to be really hard to beat," said Bird. "I really do need to start bridging the gap to him now.
"I've got to keep on getting the results if I'm to have any chance of winning this championship, which is now a possibility."
However, the British driver added that he did not expect to be as strong as he has been in the first half of the season, and he is still feeling relaxed about this season.
"I didn't realize that at this point I would be talking about catching the leader," he said.
"I expected to get a few podiums throughout the season, but I never expected six consecutive podium positions.
"I've got to keep pushing and keep learning. I'm enjoying my racing so much, and I don't feel under pressure to perform."
