Asmer chooses to race at Bucharest
British Formula Three championship leader Marko Asmer has changed his plans so that he can race in Romania this weekend, this week's Autosport reports
The Estonian is also competing in the Japanese F3 championship this year, and he had originally planned to skip the third round of the British series due to a clash of events.
However, Asmer leads the standings in the British championship with three wins from four races, while he has struggled for results in Japan.
Asmer's manager Harald Huysman said: "We've looked at different solutions, and we have taken the decision that he will do Bucharest.
"Marko is struggling in Japan with an engine that is down on power, but he is doing well in the British championship and he needs all the points he can get this weekend."
The British and Japanese calendars clash once more in the year, but Huysman is hoping that Asmer will be in a comfortable enough position by the end of August that he will be able to skip the Thruxton round.
The Hitech driver is already 34 points ahead of Stephen Jelley and Maro Engel after the first two rounds of the season, but his rivals have welcomed his decision to race around the streets of Bucharest.
"You always want to race against the best guys," Engel told autosport.com. "If anyone does beat him to the title this year, they wouldn't want him to have Bucharest as an excuse."
