Team boss praises Conway

Raikkonen Robertson Racing team boss Anthony Hieatt believes that Mike Conway was a deserving winner of the Macau Grand Prix on Sunday

Conway moved into the top spot when the three leaders went off the road on lap one, but Hieatt feels that his driver deserved some good fortune.

The British F3 champion had started the first race of the weekend further back than he would have hoped for after a crash in qualifying, but he controlled the race once he was out front.

"Mike's driven brilliantly," he said. "We had a bit of bad luck with his crash in qualifying and some good luck on the first lap, but we deserved to win.

"I have no doubt that Mike would have got pole position if he hadn't gone off. When he was at the front he had a bit of pressure, but he controlled it and did what he needed to do."

Hieatt also believes that Conway's success proves the strength of the British F3 series, which is often considered weaker than the F3 Euro Series.

"Some people in the Euro Series don't take the British championship as seriously as they should," he said, "but we showed them we can go and race with everybody."

It was also an emotional success for the team, which was only formed two years ago.

"I'm never going to forget this," said Hieatt. "I love Macau - it's the best race in the world."
