Mansell's sons sign with Fortec

Nigel Mansell's sons Greg and Leo will race for Fortec in next year's British Formula Three championship

The pair made their racing debuts in the Formula BMW UK championship this year, and raced for the team in the final F3 round of the year at Thruxton.

Greg enjoyed more success than his older brother during their first season of racing, but they both know that they still have a lot to learn.

"We have started our careers late but we are trying to catch up," said Leo. "We know we haven't got a lot of experience but we are working hard to change that.

"British F3 is the right choice for us because it is our home formula and we already have a great relationship with Fortec."

He also expects to put in stronger performances in F3, after a difficult Formula BMW season.

"Formula BMW was hard work at times but the F3 car suits the way I drive and I think people were shocked at how well we did at Thruxton," he said.

Greg added: "British F3 is highly respected and next year's calendar is fantastic. I'm really looking forward to it, this was the right choice for us."

The Mansell name is the third major racing name to race in British F3 recently. Nelson Piquet Jr won the title in 2004, while Bruno Senna raced in the series for the past two years.

Fortec boss Richard Dutton said: "It's a great honour for us to work with Nigel and the boys. They have both amazed me at how fast they are developing.

"We've got our test programme coming up, and it's good to have drivers signed up so early, we can go into the new season very well-organised."
