Pastor Maldonado has been confirmed at Trident Racing for the 2007 GP2 season.
The Venezuelan tested with the team at the end of last year, and he will line up alongside Formula Three graduate Kohei Hirate in the team.
"After reviewing all the proposals that I had for 2007, I think we have made the best decision in signing with Trident," said Maldonado.
"They are a very professional team with which we are going to work hard to fight for the top positions in GP2."
Trident took three wins in their maiden season of GP2 last year, as Gianmaria Bruni won twice and Andreas Zuber took his first victory late in the season.
Maldonado is also confident that he can land a testing deal with a Formula One team for this year.
"We are in the final phase of the talks and we will make a decision based on who offers the best conditions, although both offers that we have are very tempting," he said.
Maldonado was a championship contender in World Series by Renault last year, and it was only last week that the appeal regarding his disqualification at Misano was thrown out, which confirmed Alx Danielsson as the 2006 champion.
